As of this day, researches and scientist are still looking for a mesothelioma cure. Even after years and years of extensive research and astronomical amounts of monies spent, the currently available treatments are only capable of providing the patient with a better quality of life, but not a cure from the cancer. Before we go ahead, let's have a look at what mesothelioma actually is and what is can be caused by.

Mesothelioma is a malignant disease that predominantly affects the lining of the lungs, which is called mesothelium. The only confirmed cause for this cancer is exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is a fibrous mineral that can be found in nature, and it used to be widely used in the construction and building industries, because of its outstanding product characteristics, specifically its resistance to heat and fire. However, the once so popular material found to have a major downside. Asbestos is friable and can easily be broken up into minute fibers that get airborne and therefore easily inhaled or lodged onto the clothes of employees who get in daily contact with asbestos. As a result, not only the workers are subject to asbestos exposure, but also their family members. The symptoms of mesothelioma resemble the signs of other, often less severe, illnesses. Most commonly seen are mild to severe chest pain, persistent dry cough and difficulty in breathing. The underlying problem is that mesothelioma may lie dormant and completely asymptomatic inside the patient's body, before the first symptoms start to surface. This makes an early detection almost impossible; hence the disease has in most cases already progressed to an advanced stage upon diagnosis. As a result, the outlook on long term survival is very small. Among other things, this may explain why a mesothelioma cure hasn't been found, yet.

Among the standard treatments which include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, alternative and complimentary treatments have shown promising results in the treatments of mesothelioma. Those options are primarily based on strengthening the body’s own immune system through a healthy nutrition, natural supplements and may also include mind-body exercises. Reportedly and according to articles I found on the Internet, the only few individuals who continue to live for more than 10 years after they have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, all opted for alternative treatments and are therefore considered to be cured of mesothelioma. However and even though I am a huge proponent of complimentary treatments too, it is absolutely necessary to seek the advice of reputable health care professionals to define an effective mesothelioma treatment regimen. This may include both, traditional and complimentary methods. For example, after I got diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma (cancer of the kidney), I had the organ surgically removed and later on I followed up with complimentary treatments which included Vitamin C drips and supplements. Most importantly, though, a change to a healthy lifestyle will always help to fight any disease effectively. The few mesothelioma survivors all attribute their success and mesothelioma cure to a change in lifestyle by incorporating a whole food, plant based diet.
