Asbestos in Toys for Children

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have banned toys that contain asbestos containing materials. But according to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, the material is allegedly still present in some toys for children. For instance, during the Christmas holiday shopping season of 2007, an asbestos supervisory group (which is a sub-body of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization) ran a study, revealing that asbestos was still found to some extent in toys and other items for children. This, of course, raised major concerns among parents and officials. The ADAO does regular examine products for asbestos contamination, including toys and household items. The nation's largest asbestos victims organization has also confirmed what the ADAO published earlier - there are still toys on the market which do contain elements of asbestos.
Here is a short overview of the items that were identified as potential asbestos hazards:
Toy Kits: specifically, the Crime Scene Investigation Fingerprint Kit and the Crime Scene Investigation Forensic Lab Kit, produced and marketed by Planet Toys Incorporated, frequently featured on the television network CBS. The company has filed for insolvency. The test clearly indicated that the white powder used in the toy kits contained tremolite, which is among the most dangerous forms of asbestos.
The test numbers suggest that the CSI Fingerprint Investigation Kit contained approximately five percent asbestos.
Toy Clay: a number of products by the company Omnimodels located in Jacksonville, Florida, allegedly contained asbestos in their clay sets, according to laboratory tests.
The company had imported the clay from China. The so called 'art skills clay bucket' was found to hold several shades of clay in which asbestos was evident.

If your think your child was exposed to asbestos containing toys, you should seek medical attention immediately. With that being said, if your child was indeed in contact with a toy or an item that contains asbestos, it does not automatically mean that it will get sick. However, it is always better to be safe than sorry. After all, if the toxic fibers of asbestos get ingested or inhaled and become lodged inside the human body, they may trigger the development of an asbestos disease. Such diseases include mesothelioma, cancer of the kidney, colon cancer and asbestosis. Secondly, you should also contact a mesothelioma lawyer.
You might have the legal grounds to file for a lawsuit. I am personally not a friend of lawsuits, but the truth of the matter is, if you - or you child - have been exposed to an item that contained asbestos, even though that this is against the law, you have the right to get compensated for that. Reputable mesothelioma lawyers will offer free consultation sessions to discuss your situation and advice you on the next steps.

My wife got diagnosed with breast-cancer in March of 2009. Seven months later I received my kidney cancer diagnosis. My left kidney had to be removed. According to the pathology report, my Renal Cell Carcinoma probably started over 20 years ago - around that time I have been exposed to high concentrations asbestos.
I am not a doctor and it is not my intention to give you advice. But this website has to purpose to share my experience with you and over course of time, it will grow into a one-stop-shop information resource around asbestos and asbestos induced diseases.
