They are all over the place and it seems to be the new thing in the United States and everywhere across the western world. The breast cancer bracelets are omnipresent. It is almost a mix of fashion and demonstrating one's support of the breast cancer awareness movement. But cancer bracelets are not the only one's available. As a matter of fact there seems to be a color code involved. Each cancer has its own color theme: For instance, a yellow wristband is to support prostate cancer and the pink one's are for breast cancer awareness and support. A person, who buys a pink breast cancer bracelet, not only shows his contribution to a charitable movement, but also wants to remind others and create awareness of the situation. And there is no demographic pattern to it; you see young teenagers and seasons citizens wearing their breast cancer awareness bracelets proudly and prominently.
There is also no political correctness to be worried about. It is perfectly fine for US Senator to wear a breast cancer bracelet, and so it is for a kindergarten kid, too. And as mentioned, breast cancer bracelets are pink. Pink is a color that can be easily distinguished from others and which has grown into a kind of branding.
When you think of pink, you probably also automatically think of the slogan: "Think pink", don't you? "The Pink" can be found everywhere, on key chains, t-shirts, water bottles, toys, visors and many more items. There is clearly a pink movement out there, undeniably. And it has been used as platform for many famous people, who either were willing to support the idea of breast cancer awareness, or got involved because of their own cancer diagnosis or of a loved one's. Every 8th woman in the USA will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in her life, according to the statistics.
My wife has breast cancer. She was diagnosed with the disease in March of 2009. Although, we were practically forced to become aware of breast cancer, we might have a slightly different point of view on the whole pink breast cancer bracelet movement. However, there is no doubt in us that this once was an honorable and genuinely great idea!
Breast cancer awareness bracelets are an inexpensive way to support the “Think Pink” movement. I haven’t seen any statistics that indicate how much money is being generated by selling the pink breast cancer bracelet in large numbers. But I truly hope that the lion share goes straight into breast cancer research and we therefore will hopefully soon find effective treatments for all women who are being diagnosed with breast cancer.
