Did you ever try to find a mesothelioma picture on the web, or a mesothelioma pictures database? I made an interesting observation as I conducted my research. As a matter of fact, there are many very good and resourceful cancer websites out there that feature cancer pictures, but mesothelioma pictures were extremely hard to find.
Mesothelioma is a cancer that is treatable, however, has a poor general prognosis. The treatment protocols nowadays -- and there are new and promising ones coming on the market constantly -- are aimed to improve a mesothelioma cancer patient's quality of life, rather than curing the disease.
On March of 2009, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was really tough for all of us. We barely knew anything about cancer back then. After three surgeries, the pathology finally came back with clear margins and we were all very relieved. A few months later, we thought we slowly got a grip on our lives again when we got the next shock. It was on October 1 of 2009, when my urologist called me and told me that I had cancer in my left kidney. A few weeks before that, I found blood in my urine and I immediately made an appointment with a doctor.
We both though, that I might have kidney stones, so I was ordered for a CT-Scan. The scan, though, clearly indicated a 6.2cm tumor in my left kidney. The actual cancer pictures and my CT slides are posted on my kidney cancer homepage, in case you are interested. Then I had to have a PET scan done where they took more pictures of the cancer area. It is an awkward feeling, knowing that you have such a large thing growing inside of you. I handled the situation reasonably well from an emotional perspective, since my family and I just went through all the ups and downs that come with a cancer diagnosis. I remember when one of my wife's doctors asked me to come into his office. She showed me her breast cancer pictures and that was even weirder than seeing my own kidney cancer pictures.
On November 30, I had my kidney removed via a laparoscopic robotic radical nephrectomy, at Columbia University -- New York Presbyterian hospital. By the way, if you have to deal with any kind of urological cancer, this is the place to go, hands down. If you go to the homepage of my website and even though it is not a mesothelioma cancer picture, you can see a cancer picture of a cut open kidney. And that's pretty much how my left kidney looked like after it was taken out.
