Pleural thickening is associated with mesothelioma. It is a fibrosis that manifests in thickening and scarring of the mesothelium, the thin lining that surrounds the lungs. The situation occurs and is a result of when scar tissue starts building around the asbestos fibers that found their way into the mesothelium.
