Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is induced by the exposure to asbestos. Here is what typically happens: a person was employed by a corporation or manufacturer of the building supply industry. On his job he got in contact with the toxic material on a daily basis. Even if he did wear state of the art protection gear, he was exposed to a significant risk that the microscopically small asbestos fibers or dust particles found their way into his system.

It’s simple, as asbestos is being cut or trimmed, for example, the hazardous substance gets intermingled with the air. And that’s how it ends up being inhaled.

It causes cell damage in the so called mesothelium; that is a very thin lining that spans over the lungs and other organs in the abdomen. And this may result in asbestos lung mesothelioma, or mesothelioma asbestos lung cancer. There is also another and less severe disease that one may develop as a result of being exposed to asbestos, and that is called asbestosis.

Mesothelioma is a typically a very slow growing cancer with a long latency time. That means, that between the point in time a person started to develop the cancer and until it is actually surfacing, many years or even decades may pass. The problem with that, it makes an early detection very difficult. In other words, by the time mesothelioma asbestos lung cancer is being diagnosed in a patient, it is probably already at an advanced stage. As for all cancers, the treatment gets more difficult the more advanced the cancer has developed. Asbestos cancer can be treated effectively nowadays; however, the overall prognosis is still rather poor.

As a cancer victim myself – I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma, the cancer of the kidney, seven months after my wife got diagnosed with breast cancer – I know that in addition to conventional treatment, some alternative cancer treatments can be highly effective and keeping the disease at bay.

Living a healthy lifestyle with regular and rigorous exercising can go a long way. And walking around the block twice a week does not constitute exercise, by the way. Even more importantly is the diet. Changing your nutrition to a healthy, plant based diet, with a lot of veggie juices and unprocessed foods will help the immune system in fighting the cancer progressing. But equally important are the things that someone with mesothelioma cancer shouldn’t consume. That includes, but is not limited to: sugar, most fatty things and alcohol.
