As a patient who has been diagnosed with cancer – and whose wife got diagnosed, too – I can relate the emotional stress that comes with such devastating news. But in addition to the health concerns, more often than not, cancer patients face significant financial challenges.

The vast majority of all mesothelioma diagnoses are related to occupational asbestos exposure. Therefore, as if you have been diagnosed with this rare type of cancer, you might be entitled to get mesothelioma financial help. The process of seeking compensation for the injuries you sustained is not easy though. I am not a person who likes litigation, but if it can be proved that your mesothelioma diagnosis was the direct result of you (former) employer’s negligence or misconduct, you will have very good chances to get the financial help you need and deserve. And in order to get a better understanding of what needs to be done you should find a trustworthy mesothelioma lawyer.

Mesothelioma lawyers have mushroomed over the past decade. You’ve certainly seen TV ads where those attorneys offer their services, offering you a free consultation. And that certainly is a good thing, however, I suspect that most mesothelioma attorneys don’t do that because they are overly compassioned, but the business of mesothelioma lawsuits has turned into a very lucrative enterprise.

Anyway, here is what I suggest you should do:

  • Call or contact the American Bar Association
  • Ask for a list of reputable mesothelioma lawyers
  • Take the list and go online, see if you can find their websites (I bet they all have website)
  • Try to do some research on their litigation history to make sure that they have sufficient experience in the field of asbestos lawsuits
  • Narrow down the list to at least 3 lawyer or law firms
  • Contact each of them individually
  • Meet with them in person – again, the first consultation is for free, but just make sure and ask them before the meeting
  • Once you met with all of them, discuss with your family and then make a decision
  • If you are not comfortable with any of them, go back to your list and start with the next group of attorneys

I wish there was an easier way to secure mesothelioma financial help, but in all likelihood, you will need a lawyer, because there will be a lot of money at stake.

Also, you should definitely take the effort and try to find out whether there are other employees who also got diagnosed with mesothelioma or any other asbestos induced disease. Because if that is the case, you may have the legal grounds for a class action lawsuit.

Here is a short video that summarizes the several options to obtain financial help when diagnosed with mesothelioma. Again, keep in mind, almost certainly you will still need a lawyer to get your claim handled appropriately:
